Bringing Our Community Together

As part of our commitment to patient wellbeing and community engagement, we began holding Open/ Fun Days at the surgery in 2024 in conjunction with our flu clinics. These events are designed to bring patients, staff and local organisations together in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Our First Fun Day – 5 October 2024

The idea for Fun Days came from our Patient Participation Group (PPG), who suggested holding open days at the practice. To make the event as helpful as possible, we decided to run a flu vaccination clinic on the same day.

The event took place at the practice as the weather was lovely, we were able to hold the event in our garden. The event was open to all patients.

Information and Activity Stalls

We hosted a range of stalls to support health, wellbeing and local advice services, including:

  • Be Well
  • Dietician advice stall
  • Citizens Advice
  • Umeed (support for pregnant women)
  • Children’s activity area
  • Tombola
  • Ice cream van
  • Mental Health Services

Special Guests and New Facilities

We were pleased to welcome our local MP, Mr Afzal Khan who attended the event and officially opened our new cycle shelter.

The cycle shelter was funded by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

Fundraising and Community Support

The event also helped support important local and national charities:

  • 80kg of food and £200 raised for Ardwick and Longsight Foodbank
  • £500 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support

Flu Clinic

  • Over 300 patients were vaccinated during the clinic

Looking Ahead

Patients really enjoyed the event, and the success of our first Fun Day showed the value of working closely with our PPG and local partners. We made a commitment to the PPG that we would continue to hold these events annually.
