Patient update

MenACWY vaccine is given to young people at school in year 9, with catch ups until year 11. The vaccine can be offered in primary care from the age of 14, opportunistically or upon request to anyone who missed it at school, up until the age of 25. No additional boosters are recommended. Please check your immunisation record and if you have not received this vaccine please book an appointment with the nurse at the practice – Request an appointment with a nurse or healthcare assistant – Surrey Lodge Group Practice

The Men B vaccine is not offered to teenagers/young people under the national immunisation programme, unless you are in an “at risk” group (from 2 years of age who are at increased risk of invasive meningococcal infection with asplenia, splenic dysfunction or complement disorders (including those on, or to commence, complement inhibitor treatment such as eculizumab)). There is currently no recommendation for any additional Men B vaccinations for young people.

Micrima breast density project at Surrey Lodge

We are inviting patients to take part in a study looking at an experimental device that measures breast density. The device is not used to diagnose breast cancer and studies to see how well it assesses breast density are ongoing. Breast density helps us understand if someone is at a higher risk of breast cancer. We want women to receive this safe and painless scan to find out what they think about it. By taking part, you will be contributing to research aimed at identifying women who are most at risk of developing breast cancer, before it happens so that more women survive breast cancer in the future.

You can take part if you are aged 30 to 49 years old, assigned female at birth, do not have a current or past diagnosis of breast cancer and are not pregnant or breastfeeding. It is your decision whether to take part or not.

Study appointments will take place at Surrey Lodge practice and nurses Nicola Beal and Charlotte Hopwood will be running the scans. Appointments are running between Monday 19th May and Friday 27th June 2025.
