Our ARTS Project 2025

Creating a More Welcoming Space for Our Patients

At our surgery, we are always looking for ways to improve our patients’ experience.  Following patient feedback that our reception area felt dull and uninviting, we wanted to make improvements that would create a more welcoming space. With a limited budget, we worked closely with our Patient Participation Group (PPG) to find a creative solution.

Community Ideas and Collaboration

During a PPG meeting, members shared ideas for improving the environment. One member suggested working with a local mural artist, which became the starting point for our ARTS Project. Together, we explored ideas that would make the reception area feel calmer, brighter, and more welcoming for everyone.

Developing the Theme and Ideas

At a later PPG meeting, members shared ideas for a nature and garden-inspired theme, focusing on colours and images that promote wellbeing and relaxation. The group felt strongly that bringing elements of the outdoors into the surgery would create a more positive atmosphere for patients waiting to be seen.

To help shape the design:

  • PPG members visited local gardens
  • They took photographs of flowers, trees, and natural spaces
  • They drew inspiration from our garden and its planting
  • These images were shared as inspiration for the mural design

This collaborative approach ensured the artwork truly reflected the views and creativity of our patient community.

Bringing the Project to Life

Using the ideas and inspiration provided, the local artist created a mural that transformed our reception area into a brighter and more welcoming space.

The finished artwork reflects:

  • Patient involvement
  • A calming garden theme
  • Our commitment to improving patient experience

A Project We’re Proud Of

The ARTS Project shows what can be achieved when patients and practice staff work together. We are grateful to our Patient Participation Group and the local artist for their time, creativity, and enthusiasm. We are proud of the result and hope the refreshed reception area makes visits to the surgery a more pleasant experience.
