Patient update

MenACWY vaccine is given to young people at school in year 9, with catch ups until year 11. The vaccine can be offered in primary care from the age of 14, opportunistically or upon request to anyone who missed it at school, up until the age of 25. No additional boosters are recommended. Please check your immunisation record and if you have not received this vaccine please book an appointment with the nurse at the practice – Request an appointment with a nurse or healthcare assistant – Surrey Lodge Group Practice

The Men B vaccine is not offered to teenagers/young people under the national immunisation programme, unless you are in an “at risk” group (from 2 years of age who are at increased risk of invasive meningococcal infection with asplenia, splenic dysfunction or complement disorders (including those on, or to commence, complement inhibitor treatment such as eculizumab)). There is currently no recommendation for any additional Men B vaccinations for young people.

Why We Chose to Support a Local Charity

In 2024, we decided to support a local charity as part of our commitment to the community we serve.

Working with Our Patient Participation Group (PPG)

We discussed this idea with our Patient Participation Group (PPG) and asked for their suggestions. Members of the group felt it was important to support a charity that works directly with local families and individuals in the local area.

Following their feedback, we chose to support Ardwick and Longsight Foodbank. They are a local independent food bank watching to support people in the local community. They are a volunteer- led organisation that provides food parcels to those find themselves without the means to obtain their own groceries.

How We Provide Support

We donate £50 worth of food every month to the foodbank.

To make sure our donation is useful:

  • The foodbank tells us which items are most needed
  • We order the food from our local ASDA
  • The items are then sent directly to the foodbank

This helps ensure the food we donate is relevant and supports people when they need it most.
Continuing Our Support

We are pleased to be able to provide regular support to Ardwick and Longsight Foodbank and to work with our PPG to make a positive contribution to our local community.

“Your kindness always goes a long way in helping us provide essential food supplies to individuals and families in need.

We are deeply grateful for your continued partnership and thoughtfulness.

Thank you once again for making a tangible difference through your generosity.”
